Description
Now available, 40cm clay barrel tiles for the repair or refurbishment of continental roofs. If you are repairing a roof of curved tiles they have probably been installed mortared together on a plank boarded roof. These tiles are available with an aged finish so that any areas repaired will not stand out as obvious, plain red tiles also available. If you are fitting a new roof or replacing large sections, see other page on ‘French Clay Roof Tiles – 2 Tile System’ as this allows you construct a more modern roof with batten fixable base tiles.
It could be that the tiles on your roof have been hand drilled to allow fixing, ordinary barrel tiles with pre drilled holes are available to order from the factory, but on modern continental roofs the top covering tiles are fixed together with an ‘S’ shaped hook to stop the tiles slipping down the roof, used where the roof slope exceeds 15 degrees. Please ask about this method of fixing.
As a rough guide, to cover 1m2 of roof you will require 17 top + 17 bottom = 34 tiles, however, the initial 1 metre of roof only requires around 30 tiles in total, please ask for help in estimating your needs.
The tiles are 174mm wide at the top narrowing to 144m wide at the bottom of the tile. Weight 1.65kg each. The top tiles are best fixed in place by either a small spot of glue or expanding foam or mortared to the base tile, the base tiles are probably best fitted as per the originals. The tile colour is as the photo, the tiles are pre-coloured so not to be apparent new tiles when installed.
The cost of this roof is from £68 per sq.m. or £2 a tile. The price £1.90 relates to Spanish plain red 40cm tiles for a pallet of 840.
Please ask for assistance in estimating quantities needed, we will also assist you with instructions for the battening and construction of your roof.
See Spanish roof tile page for larger version of this tile.
