Description
This roofing tile is slightly larger than the French version and so less are needed to cover a square metre. The ‘bases’ (or the bottom concave tiles) are batten fixable, and the ‘tops’ (the top or covering convex tiles) are laid on top and are best fixed in place by either a small spot of glue or expanding foam or mortared to the base tile.
The top tiles are coloured before firing and this gives an instant aged look to a new building job. They also are good for use in low slope roofs, suitable for as low as 13.5 degrees but will work down as low as 10 degrees. Maximum roof slope length = 12m. For slopes between 25 and 45 degrees, one in 5 base tiles should be fixed down and the top tiles should be fixed together with ‘S’ shaped metal clips, over 45 degrees, all tiles should be nailed or screwed down.
To cover 1m2 of roof you will require around 10 top + 10 bottom = 20 tiles, this may vary depending on the guage of the tiles and roof length, please ask for help in estimating your needs.
The tiles are 22cm wide at the large end narrowing to 16cm wide at the other and overlap each other by between 7 and 15cm. The tiles are 50cm long and require 25 x 38mm battens. The base tiles should be fixed 27cm apart on the battens, a small amount of expanding foam is suitable for this. Tiles each – 2.5kg. The top tiles may be fixed to the base tiles by the use of expanding foam also but generally it is their weight that keeps them in place.
The minimum length of roof slope is 50cm including overhang, it then goes up to 78cm for 2 tiles overlapped and then increases in increments of 43cm for each overlapped tile. Please ask for a link to the fitting diagram if unsure of how many tiles you need on your slope length.
The cost of this roof is £41 per sq.m. The base tiles are £2 each and the covering tiles £2.10 each. The top tiles can be used on top of corrugated cement board roofing sheets or other substrates.
You may use the top tile as a base tile as it is coloured on both sides, however it is cheaper to use the plain red base tile and the eye is drawn to the coloured top tiles not the bases underneath. If you use the top tile as a base, these need to be fixed to boards and not battens. The photo shows coloured base tiles, we only supply red. You have a choice of 2 colour schemes of tiles, see gallery for ‘Galia’ with the white highlights, or ‘Tossal’ with a more bluey hue, as seen on main picture.
