The ideal choice for a traditional rustic and timeless finish to your roof. This roofing system comes with 2 types of tiles, the ‘canals’ (or the bottom tiles) are batten fixable, and the ‘chapeaux’ (the top or covering tiles). The covering tiles are coloured before firing and this gives an instant aged look to a new building job. They also are the best tiles for use in low slope roofs, suitable for as low as 13.5 degrees but will work down as low as 10 degrees. Maximum roof slope length = 12m.

To cover 1m2 of roof you will require 16 top + 16 bottom = 32 tiles, however, the initial 1 metre of roof only requires around 30 tiles in total, please ask for help in estimating your needs. All tiles are 40cm long.

The base tiles are 17cm wide at the top narrowing to 14cm wide at the bottom of the tile and overlap each other by between 7 and 14cm. The covering tiles are 14cm wide at the top and splay to 18cm wide at the bottom and overlap each other by 7 to 14cm as well. Both tiles are 40cm long and require 25 x 38mm battens. The top tiles are best fixed in place by either a small spot of glue or expanding foam or mortared to the base tile.

Current pricing for these 40cm French tiles is £2.26 for the base tiles and £2.25 for the top tiles. This equates to £71.20 per sq.m. for both top and bottom tiles on an average slope gradient based on 16 base and 16 top tiles psm. The covering tiles are available separately if you wish to use them on top of corrugated cement board roofing sheets or other substrates.

Please ask for assistance in estimating quantities needed, we will also assist you with instructions for the battening and construction of your roof.

These tiles are available in a range of colours, base tiles are normally plain red as these are not too visible and we can supply a range of coloured top tiles. Also available is a renovation tile that will fit in colour-wise wise with any existing roof if you are repairing or changing a small area.

Please be aware that the building products we supply have been formed in a mould and have been fired in a kiln. These are natural products made from 100% pure clay and as a result after firing they can have sharp edges and also be subject to slight distortion and twisting and also display small firecracks. This is a natural result of the drying and firing process and cannot be helped and does not affect the structure of the product. Clay is a natural product and there can be variances in the colours of the finished products. Please use hand protection when moving these products. These sharp edges will weather over time if the product is used in an external environment.
